Kingsgate Car Park in ºù«ÍÞapp town centre is to close from Monday (11 October) for a two-month refurbishment.
The car park, in Kingsgate opposite the Memorial Gardens, is owned by ºù«ÍÞapp Borough Council and has been leased to National Car Parks (NCP).
NCP will hand back the car park to the council on Monday; this was unexpected because the company has terminated its lease without notice.
As owners of the car park, the council has no choice but to close it immediately while repairs and improvements are made.
Without a working lift the car park doesn’t meet accessibility requirements. NCP is also removing its equipment.
These issues will be rectified by the council to make the car park a better, safer environment for motorists to leave their vehicles. They are expected to take around two months so the council aims to reopen the car park in December.
While this work takes place, motorists are advised to use the Town Hall Multi-Storey Car Park on Exchange Road.
When Kingsgate Car Park reopens it will be owned and operated by ºù«ÍÞapp Borough Council.
Due to NCP’s decision to terminate its lease without notice, we’ve been forced to act quickly. Unfortunately, we’re left with no other option but to close the car park so these improvement works can take place. We understand that NCP’s decision will inconvenience customers; however, we’ll be working as quickly as we can to get the car park reopened.
